West Virginia Golf Courses In Great Shape
West Virginia tends to be a little cooler than most of the mid-Atlantic region. As a result, West Virginia golf courses are generally in good condition year-round (before and after the snow, of course). One treat in West Va. is the Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort (Mountain Lakes). According to the WV board of tourism, "The layout received national acclaim in 2003 as one of Golf Magazine’s “Top Ten New Courses You Can Play.” Hilly, tight and accented by lakes, Stonewall's rates stay well below $100 and the resort has plenty to offer for all family members. Also worth the West Va. visit is The Raven Course at Snowshoe Mountain (Potomac Highlands), a Gary Player creation where whitetail deer, Canada geese, beavers, foxes, rabbits, and the occasional black bear are members of the course's sanctuary.

Greens fees stay under $100 and package deals through the resort are available. Of many notable West Virginia courses, the 90-plus-year-old Greenbrier golf course is especially notable; it’s hosted a Ryder Cup and was home to golfing legend Sam Snead. When you play courses in good condition, remember to practice good course etiquette.

f you are unsure about these practices inquire when scheduling your West Virginia tee time. Basic etiquette includes tapping down spike marks (after you've putted!) and filling in divots. If you don’t think that other players have done the same, bring it up in the pro shop following your round. Or just brawl with the offenders, ala Happy Gilmore.
